Xbox's October Update Brings Mythic Achievements to Every Console

Microsoft started rolling out its October console update to all Xbox players on October 28, after testing several of its features with Xbox Insiders. The headline addition is Mythic Achievements.

Mythic Achievements

You earn a Mythic Achievement by completing all of a game’s original achievements. Achievements added later through DLC or updates aren’t required, and once you’ve earned Mythic status it’s yours to keep. Xbox Wire says Mythics were applied to eligible games players had already completed, including Xbox 360 titles, so many profiles will already have some.

Profiles get a Gaming tab showing achievements, the next Gamerscore milestone badge and completed games, with Mythics marked by a “heroic frame.” Each game’s achievement list gains a progress bar toward Mythic, and later achievements are tagged “add-on.”

Everything else

The update notes list ten new features:

• Startup animations: choose your boot animation, with options from Xbox One through the current generation, under Settings > System > Startup. The option to play it without sound moved there too.
• Local saves: view, sort and delete local game saves that aren’t in use, one at a time or all at once.
• Remote Play: streaming to your Xbox Series X|S now goes up to 1440p, with higher video bitrates on supported devices.
• Home customization: remove any item from the recent games and apps row, including the Play History tile, and press the right stick on Home for an immersive background mode.
• Local search: find games and achievements in My games & apps, club achievement lists and your profile’s Gaming tab.
• Cloud Gaming: cloud-played games are added to My games & apps, and downloads can continue in the background while you stream when the network allows.
• Disc to digital: viewing disc-to-digital licences you no longer have access to now opens a console page instead of a website.
• Badges: detailed info and high-resolution art for every badge on a profile.
• Party chat: behind-the-scenes infrastructure changes aimed at future reliability and security.

Bug fixes cover Home refreshing continuously, boots to a black screen, downloads that appeared to stall, and performance with very large libraries.

To install it now, go to Settings > System > Updates. Otherwise, it installs automatically.
