Steam Client Beta (November 5): Friends List, Patch-Notes Preview, and Linux Lobby Crash Fixes

Valve's beta notes fix a friends list stuck after failed launch login, wrong patch-notes preview, Big Picture DST timezones, and a Linux lobby-creation crash with ISteamNetworking

Valve posted a Steam Client Beta update titled “Steam Client Beta - November 5th” (announcement). The group RSS lists the item’s pubDate as 2026-11-06 00:21:59 UTC (about 6:21 PM CST on November 5), authored by lostgoat.

Changes (full notes)

General

  • Fixed an issue where the friends list could get stuck when failing to login at launch and required toggling offline to load the friends list.
  • Fixed a regression that caused the patch notes preview to show the previous patch notes instead of the current ones.

Big Picture Mode

  • Added timezone selection entries for locations with changes to daylight savings time, e.g. British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba.

Linux

  • Fixed a crash when creating a lobby in games that use the ISteamNetworking interface, e.g. Sons of the Forest.

These notes apply to the Steam Client Beta channel, not a SteamOS Stable/Beta/Preview or Proton release.

Opinion: the Linux ISteamNetworking lobby crash is the one that actually unblocks play sessions—the friends-list and patch-notes fixes are quality-of-life.
