Windows 11 Adds Accelerated App Launches, and Edge 150 Is First to Use Them

Reopening an app that's already running gets 15 to 33 percent faster on Windows 11 with the October preview update or later.

Windows 11 has a new feature called accelerated app launches, and Microsoft Edge 150 is the first app to use it.

What it does

According to Microsoft, accelerated app launches make reopening an app that’s already running between 15% and 33% faster. Edge 150 is the first app built to take advantage of it.

What you need

The feature requires Windows 11’s October preview update, KB5127936, or a later update. We covered what else that update brings in our KB5127936 story.

Other apps

Apps don’t get the speedup automatically. Developers have to opt in through a limited-access API, which Microsoft documents on Microsoft Learn.
