Proton Experimental Brings New Fixes for Helldivers 2, BeamNG.drive and More
Valve's October 30 update fixes crashes that followed recent game updates, makes Gray Raven and Crown Trick playable, and stops dxvk-nvapi from tripping up non-Nvidia setups

Valve pushed a new Proton Experimental update on October 30, and several of its fixes deal with games that broke after their own recent updates. Proton is the compatibility layer that runs Windows games on SteamOS and desktop Linux. Experimental is where fixes land before they reach a numbered stable release, which is currently Proton 11.0-2, with an 11.0-3 release candidate in testing.
New in the October 30 build
According to Valve’s official changelog on the Proton GitHub wiki, this update adds:
- Now playable: Gray Raven and Crown Trick.
- Helldivers 2: fixed a random crash after a recent game update.
- BeamNG.drive: fixed crashes with the game’s Vulkan renderer after a recent game update.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered: fixed long load times after death when game controllers are plugged in.
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes: fixed mouse wheel scrolling.
- Way of the Hunter 2 and other games: fixed issues on setups without Nvidia GPUs caused by the presence of dxvk-nvapi.
- Valor Mortis: no longer shows a driver GPU warning on AMD GPUs.
- Xalia: fixed multiple instances of the accessibility and controller tool running at the same time.
How to get it
In Steam, open a game’s Properties, go to Compatibility, turn on “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool” and pick Proton Experimental. Experimental also carries all the changes from Proton 11.0-2 and the fixes from earlier Experimental updates. Valve’s changelog lists them in full.
